VMware mks-guest-stats mechanism allows the collection of performance stats from
guest userland GL contexts, as well as from vmwgfx kernelspace, via a set of sw-
defined performance counters. The userspace performance counters are (de)registerd
with vmware-vmx-stats hypervisor via new iocts. The vmwgfx kernelspace counters
are controlled at build-time via a new config DRM_VMWGFX_MKSSTATS.
* Add vmw_mksstat_{add|remove|reset}_ioctl controlling the tracking of
mks-guest-stats in guest winsys contexts
* Add DRM_VMWGFX_MKSSTATS config to drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/Kconfig controlling
the instrumentation of vmwgfx for kernelspace mks-guest-stats counters
* Instrument vmwgfx vmw_execbuf_ioctl to collect mks-guest-stats according to
DRM_VMWGFX_MKSSTATS

In this patch we add a section to document what userspace should do to
find out the CRTC index. This is important as they may be many places in
the documentation that need this, so it's better to just point to this
section and avoid repetition.

The value of the AFBC_FEATURES register is required by userspace to
determine AFBC support on Bifrost. A user on our IRC channel (#panfrost)
reported a workload that raised a fault on one system's Mali G31 but
worked flawlessly with another system's Mali G31. We determined the
cause to be missing AFBC support on one vendor's Mali implementation --
it turns out AFBC is optional on Bifrost!
Whether AFBC is supported or not is exposed in the AFBC_FEATURES
register on Bifrost, which reads back as 0 on Midgard. A zero value
indicates AFBC is fully supported, provided the architecture itself
supports AFBC, allowing backwards-compatibility with Midgard. Bits 0 and
15 indicate that AFBC support is absent for texturing and rendering
respectively.
The user experiencing the fault reports that AFBC_FEATURES reads back
0x10001 on their system, confirming the architectural lack of AFBC.
Userspace needs this parameter to know to disable AFBC on that
chip, and perhaps others.

Add AMDGPU_INFO_VBIOS_INFO subquery id for detailed vbios info.
Provides a way for the user application to get the VBIOS
information without having to parse the binary.
It is useful for the user to be able to display in a simple way the VBIOS
version in their system if they happen to encounter an issue.

These are 16 bits per color channel unsigned normalized formats.
They are supported by at least AMD display hw, and suitable for
direct scanout of Vulkan swapchain images in the format
VK_FORMAT_R16G16B16A16_UNORM.

SG BOs such as dmabuf imports and userptr BOs do not consume system
resources directly. Instead they point to resources owned elsewhere.
They typically get evicted by DMABuf move notifiers of MMU notifiers.
If those notifiers don't need to wait for hardware fences (i.e. the SG
BOs are used in a preemptible context), then we don't need to limit
them to the GTT size and we don't need TTM to evict them.
Create a new placement for such preemptible SG BOs that does not impose
artificial size limits and TTM evictions.

Force-probing a connector can be slow and cause flickering. As this
affects the global KMS state, let's make it so only the DRM master
can force-probe a connector.
Non-master DRM clients won't be able to force-probe a connector
anymore. Instead, KMS will perform a regular read-only connector
query.

Performance counts, and ALWAYS_ON counters used for capturing GPU
timestamps, lose their state across suspend/resume cycles. Userspace
tooling for performance monitoring needs to be aware of this. For
example, after a suspend userspace needs to recalibrate it's offset
between CPU and GPU time.

libdrm has supported the newer execbuffer2 ioctl and using it by default
when it exists since libdrm commit b50964027bef which landed Mar 2, 2010.
The i915 and i965 drivers in Mesa at the time both used libdrm and so
did the Intel X11 back-end. The SNA back-end for X11 has always used
execbuffer2.

Gen12 display can decompress surfaces compressed by render engine with
Clear Color, add a new modifier as the driver needs to know the surface
was compressed by render engine.

The comment says the layout and options use 8 bits, and the shift
uses 8 bits. However the mask is 0xf, ie. 0b00001111 (4 bits).
This could be surprising when introducing new layouts or options
that take more than 4 bits, as this would silently drop the high
bits.
Make the masks consistent with the comment and the shift.
Found when writing a drm_info patch [1].

Since we wake the GT up before executing a request, and go to sleep as
soon as it is retired, the GT wake time not only represents how long the
device is powered up, but also provides a summary, albeit an overestimate,
of the device runtime (i.e. the rc0 time to compare against rc6 time).

Adding any kinds of "last" abi markers is usually a mistake which I
repeated when implementing the PMU because it felt convenient at the time.
This patch marks I915_PMU_LAST as deprecated and stops the internal
implementation using it for sizing the event status bitmask and array.
New way of sizing the fields is a bit less elegant, but it omits reserving
slots for tracking events we are not interested in, and as such saves some
runtime space. Adding sampling events is likely to be a special event and
the new plumbing needed will be easily detected in testing. Existing
asserts against the bitfield and array sizes are keeping the code safe.
First event which gets the new treatment in this new scheme are the
interrupts - which neither needs any tracking in i915 pmu nor needs
waking up the GPU to read it.

Sphinx doesn't like old doc-comments in drm.h and generates warnings
like:

Demote these to regular comments, because converting all of them is
quite a lot of work (also requires documenting all of the struct fields
for instance). Also many of these structures aren't really used by
modern user-space.
We can easily convert these remaining old comments to Sphinx style on a
one-by-one basis.
